Box Score UTPB volleyball ran out of time on the road Saturday afternoon after losing the first two sets of the day as the Falcons rebounded to take the third but dropped the fourth in a 19-25, 23-25, 25-23, 17-25 loss in Wichita, Kan.
Trailing 2-0, the Falcons used big rallies to get ahead early on in the third set. UTPB scored four straight points to go on top 4-2 and later scored five consecutive points to lead 10-5. The Falcons scored three in a row with a kill each from
Rachel Dixon and
Morgann Davis to lead by six 14-8. The lead helped the Falcons stay on top as the teams alternated points 13 straight times, but the Jets rebounded to clain a 23-22 lead late in the set behind four straight points. The Falcons rallied back to close out the third, winning the last three points and taking the set on a block by
Ryley Carman and
Ariana Gallardo for a two-point set win.
UTPB and Newman played a tight fourth set early on with each team claiming the lead at different points but neither team was able to go ahead by more than two points. The Falcons turned a two-point Newman advantage into an 11-10 lead with three straight points, but the Jets responded with five straight of their own to lead 15-11. The Falcons came back with four in a row to tie the set at 15-15 but Newman went on the offensive and took the set over with seven points to go ahead 22-15 in the eventual 25-17 fourth set win.
Ryley Carman was the focal point of the UTPB attack, leading the team with 18 kills.
Annelise Sanchez ended the day in double digits, adding 10 kills on the afternoon.
Ariana Gallardo had 44 assists in the four sets and
Taylor Harmon was one of five Falcons with double digit digs with a team-high 20.
UTPB is back at home this week, hosting UA Fort Smith THursday night at 7 p.m.
