Men's Soccer Can't Complete Comeback Against Newman

Box Score UTPB men's soccer ran out of time in its effort to come back after giving up three straight goals Saturday night, dropping a 3-2 Heartland Conference contest at home against Newman at the UTPB Soccer Field. 

Nathan Cotterell put the Falcons in the lead early in the first half, taking a pass from Timmy Roberts in the left side of the box in the 14th minute and scoring at the far right post for his ninth goal of the season.

The Jets got the score back two minutes later when Luca Anelli scored a header for his sixth of the year at 15:21.

Jamie Barkway added another header in the 28th minute, scoring off a set piece from 40 yards out to put Newman in the lead 2-1.

Tomaz Rossi added a third goal in the first half for the Jets in the 38th minute to put them on top by a pair heading into halftime.

Cotterell came back with his second goal of the night and 10th of the season in the 67th minute, getting a through ball from Caio Toth to beat the NU defense before dribbling around the goalkeeper for an easy strike into the net.

The Falcons took the final six shots of the night after getting within a goal, but were unable to even the game over the final 23 minutes.

UTPB led Newman with a 14-8 shot lead on the night, but trailed the Jets 7-6 in shots-on-goal.

The Falcons are back at home Monday afternoon, hosting Rogers State at 2:30 p.m.
