Volleyball Takes Down OPSU 3-0

Box Score UTPB volleyball got back on track Thursday night, earning a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-17) win on the road in Heartland Conference action against Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla.

Annelise Sanchez and Caitlyn Guajardo each had 10 kills for the UTPB attack to lead the team as the Falcons hit a combined .337 for the night.

UTPB broke away to an eight point lead in the first set with five straight points to go on top 18-10. The Falcons ended the set with the final three points for a 25-16 win in the first.

They had to rally in the second set, coming back after trailing 7-1 early on. Four kills in five points by Guajardo helped bring them back to trail by two at 8-6, but OPSU scored the next five points to lead by seven. A six point swing to the Falcons cut the Aggie lead to 13-12, and the Falcons took the lead later in the set at 17-16 at the tail end of a four-point run. 
UTPB closed out the third with five of the final six points for a 25-22 second set victory.

The Falcons came back after falling behind 3-1 to open the third set to claim a 7-4 lead, but trailed 9-8 after four straight OPSU points. Tied 16-16 midway through the set, the Falcons took over, scoring four straight to go on top 20-16, and after a point by OPSU, scored the last five points on four kills to win the match with a 25-17 third set victory.

Ariana Gallardo had a match-high 34 assists on the evening for the Falcons, and Jordan McDonald led all players with 12 digs.

UTPB closes out the three game roadtrip Saturday afternoon, traveling to Wichita for a 12 p.m. contest at Newman.
