Box Score UTPB volleyball put in one of its most dominating performances of the season Tuesday night, earning a three-set win over Texas A&M - Kingsville 25-22, 25-20, 25-18 in non-conference action at the Falcon Dome.
The Falcons hit a season-best .303 on the attack, led by
Morgann Davis hitting .429 on 21 total attacks with 11 kills,
Ryley Carman hitting .308 with 11 more kills and
Hannah Rebb adding eight kills with a .389 hitting percentage.
UTPB came out and committed just three errors on 32 attempts with 18 kills in the opening set but had to play from behind when Texas A&M - Kingsville scored four straight to lead 10-7. The Falcons turned it around by scoring eight of the next 10 points to lead 15-12, but later gave up three in a row as the javelinas tied the first 16-16. UTPB pulled away towards the end of the set, out-scoring TAMUK 9-4 for a 25-20 first set winner.
The teams played tight early on in the second set, with neither pulling away by much more than a point until the Falcons rattled off six in a row to break a 12-12 tie into an 18-12 lead that helped them hold on towards the end of the set for a 25-22 win.
UTPB played from behind again early in the third, rebounding from falling back 9-6 by going on to score five in a row to lead 11-9 before going ahead 17-11. The Javelinas closed to within a point at 17-16 with five straight, but the Falcons gave up just two more points the rest of the contest in out-scoring Texas A&M - Kingsville 8-2 for the 25-18 set win.
Jordan McDonald led UTPB with nine digs on the night, and
Ariana Gallardo had a three-set season high with 41 assists on the night.
The Falcons hit the road right away, traveling to Eastern New Mexico for a Wednesday night non-conference contest before Heartland Conference games this week at Oklahoma Panhandle State and Newman.
