Box Score UTPB volleyball snapped a Heartland Conference skid Saturday afternoon, defeating Texas A&M International in three sets 25-14, 27-25, 25-15 on its home court at the Falcon Dome.
The Falcons took advantage on a pair of blocks by
Hannah Rebb and
Puava Tulau with kills from Rebb, Tulau and Ryley Caman for a five point run for the first substantial lead of the day at 12-8 in the opening set.
Leading 17-11 later in the first, the Falcons scored six straight to increase their lead out to 23-11 with the last three points coming on
Annelise Sanchez kills.
An
Ariana Gallardo winner five points later won the 25-14 set for UTPB.
The Falcons played from behind early on in the second after having dropped the first four points. UTPB fought back to take a 13-12 lead by scoring six of seven points, the last three on a pair of kills from Carman and an ace by
Taylor Harmon. Despite falling behind by four points twice in the rest of the set, the Falcons once again scored six of seven to lead 23-22.
UTPB faced set point trailing 24-23, but tied the set at 24-24 on another kill from Gallardo. Facing its second set point at 25-24, UTPB won the last three of the second, winning 27-25 on a block by
Morgann Davis and Rebb.
The third set came much easier as the Falcons were helped by an early 5-2 lead. Facing a tied set at 8-8, the Falcons scored seven of the next eight points to go on top 15-9. UTPB never led by fewer than five over the remainder of the match before wrapping up the contest with a 25-15 third set victory.
Carman led the UTPB attack with a match-high 13 kills on the afternoon, hitting .286 as the Falcons out-hit Texas A&M Internationa .262 to .078 as a team. Gallardo led all players on the day with 35 assists and
Taylor Harmon had a match-high 19 digs in the three-set win.
The Falcons are back at home early this week, hosting Texas A&M - Kingsville in non-conference action Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
