UTPB Men's Basketball was out-scored 44-30 in the second half and saw a 13 point lead disappear as the Falcons four game win streak was ended in an 82-75 defeat on the road to Newman in Wichita, Kan.
Phadarius Taylor helped to put the Falcons (12-5, 6-3) on top 28-17 with seven straight points, hitting a pair of layups followed by a 3-pointer to stretch the team's lead out to 11.
The Falcons went on top by a game-high 13 points as Andre Reider hit a pair of threes to go ahead 45-32 with 2:04 to play in the first.
Newman (7-11, 4-6) closed out the half on a 6-0 run, scoring all of its points at the free throw line, but UTPB went into the half with a seven point, 45-38 lead as Taylor hit 6-of-7 baskets in the half to lead all players with 13 points and four assists.
The Falcons struggled from the field in the second half, seeing its 54.5 percent shooting in the first (18-33) fall to 33.3 percent with just seven made field goals.
They held on to the lead for nearly the first 15 minutes of the second half but fell behind when the Jets scored 12 straight to put the Falcons down nine points at 78-69
UTPB got back within a possession, scoring the next six points with a layup by
Jonathan Uribe and four free throws to close Newman's lead to 78-75 with :22 remaining, but the Jets converted a pair from the free throw line and closed out the game on a layup with four seconds remaining.
Taylor and
Madison Turner combined for nearly half of the team's points with 18 points apiece and
Anthony Dees chipped in 11 points.
Marquis Cuyler led all scorers with a game-high 23 points for Newman
The Falcons are back home this week, hosting Arkansas-Fort Smith Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
