UTPB men's basketball out-scored St. Edward's 25-9 over the final 6:42 to win its third straight Heartland Conference game in an 85-71 win over the Hilltoppers Saturday afternoon in Austin, Texas.
Trailing 62-60,
Andre Rieder tied the game for the seventh time with a pair of free throws after grabbing an offensive rebound on a missed three.
Rieder gave UTPB the lead the next time down the court, sinking a three to put the Falcons on top 65-62 with 6:17 remaining.Â
He came up big on defense on the following possession, blocking a layup attempt.
Thomas Feeney took advantage of the turnover, converting a layup at the other end to give UTPB a 67-62 advantage.
The Falcons kept building onto their lead, scoring the next four points on trips to the line by Feeney and
Anthony Dees, a three-point play by Feeney and a pair of free throws by Feeney on two different times at the line to score 16 straight points on the Hilltoppers and lead by 14 points at 76-62 with just 2:24 to play.
St. Edward's got no closer than nine points the rest of the way as UTPB went 5-6 at the free throw line and scored on its final two possessions to wrap up the 14-point victory.
Feeney carried the Falcons throughout the game, scoring 15 points in the first half and 16 after halftime for a season-high 31 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Dees scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half  while
Keith Martin (14 points, 11 rebounds) and
Madison Turner (10 points, 10 rebounds) each ended the game with a double-double.
Ramir Burton led the Hilltoppers with 29 points, hitting 10-of13 shots from the floor on the night.
The Falcons return to action on the road Thursday night, traveling to Oklahoma Panhandle State for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
