UTPB forward
Nathan Cotterell scored two goals and assisted on four others as the men's soccer team rebounded from a slow start to score six of the last seven goals in a 6-3 victory over Colorado State - Pueblo in Odessa, Texas.
The Thunderwolves sprung first with two goals in 22 seconds, getting the first of the game in the 11th minute when Matt Marchena picked up a turnover in the box to score his first of the year. TJ Thiebout added another in the 12th minute when he headed a loose ball into the upper right corner to take a 2-0 lead.
But the tide quickly turned the Falcons direction, starting with a goal from
German Chavarria off a through ball from Cotterell to cut the lead to one in the 13th.
The same combo worked together to tie the game as Cotterell scored his first of the night in the 30th with a shot from the top of the box off a pass from Chavarria.
Tyler Gibson put the Falcons in the lead in the 31st, heading in a cross from Coterell from the right side on a break started by
BJ Rodrick.
The Falcons added three more in the second half, starting with
Ciaran Connery's header off a pass from Cotterell.
Following a goal from Jonny Sawyer that pulled Pueblo back to trailing by one goal, Cotterell pushed the gap back to two in the 84th on a break, taking a pass across the field from Rodrick and dribbling around the CSU-P keeper to shoot into an open net.
Connery and Cotterel connected again in the final minute of the game for the team's sixth and final goal of the night.
UTPB peppered the net with shots all night, holding a distinctive 23-13 shot advantage while scoring on six of its 12 shots on goal.
