9/24/2013 8:22:00 PM

Jessie Thomas scored a goal in each half as West Texas A&M defeated the UTPB women's soccer team 2-0 Tuesday night in Odessa.

Thomas got her first of the game in the 33rd minute, challenging UTPB keeper Bridget Esquivel on a cross from outside the left of the box and deflecting the ball off her body into the net.

She added her second of the game shortly after halftime, taking possession near midfield and dribbling in before playing around Esquivel to score into an open net.

The Falcons has a pair of close scoring chances on the night, including an attempt late in the first half as Sal Gebre played deep into the left side before shooting from close to the goal line, and an attempt by Brooke Saxton that sailed high toward the later parts of the second half.

Esquivel made a number of strong saves on the evening, including one 9:38 into the game as she stopped Dominique Preman one-on-one when she picked up a loose ball next to the net. Esquivel fell one short of her season best with 11 saves in the game.

The Falcons hit the road later this week, traveling to Lubbock for a Thursday night contest at Lubbock Christian.
