The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's soccer team used another great outing from sophomore forward
Nathan Cotterell to improve to 4-1 on the season with a 3-1 win against St. Mary's in non-conference action Thursday night in San Antonio, Texas.
Cotterell doubled his goal total on the season with three scores on the night, his first coming just 2:28 into the match when he dribbled past the St. Mary's GK on a ball played by
Tyler Gibson to find the back of the net in the third minute of play.
He was successful once more in the first half, scoring his second of the night from close to the net, finding the upper left corner with an assist from
Logan Sharp.
St. Mary's grabbed one back three seconds before halftime when Jack Wolf took advantage of UTPB keeper
Craig Branum attempting to play a loose ball and getting stuck out of the net to score on an open net to close within a lone goal heading into the half down 2-1.
Cotterell pushed the gap back out to a pair of goals quickly after the half, scoring his sixth of the year unassisted in the 51st minute in what proved to be the contest's final score of the day.
St. Mary's held a 13-10 total shot advantage in the 90 minutes, while both teams were able to record six shots on goal.
The Falcons remain on the road this weekend, facing Houston-Victoria Saturday afternoon.
