UTPB volleyball nearly came back after falling behind two sets to one Friday night, rallying to win the fourth and force a fifth an final set, but the Falcons couldn't put Midwestern State away in a 21-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 14-16 loss at the Heartland/Lone Star Crossover in Lubbock, Texas.
Texas-Permian Basin came out strong in the fifth set against the Mustangs,winning six of seven points in taking a 9-5 lead. The Falcons kept that advantage all the way to playing for match point with a 14-10 lead, but MSU erased that lead with six straight points to with the fifth set and take a 3-2 match victory.
The Falcons got to the fifth set with a strong start to the fourth set, helped by winning the point on three straight block, all featuring
Terra Peil with the final two including
Morgann Davis to acquire an 11-4 lead before holding on for a 25-23 win in the set.
Peil led all players in the contest with eight blocks.
Ariel Fralick (29) and
Ariana Gallardo (28) recorded all but one assist for UTPB.
Melissa Lusk led the team with 15 kills and
Ryley Carman tallied 11 winners while hitting .348 on the day.
UTPB is back in action Saturday in Lubbock, taking on Texas A&M - Kingsville at 9 a.m. and Texas A&M - Commerce at 1 p.m.
