Unearned Runs Cost UTPB at Abilene Christian

4/23/2013 6:57:00 PM

Abilene Christian scored seven runs in the first three innings, all of them unearned, in taking a 12-1 midweek contest Tuesday afternoon in Abilene Christian.

The Wildcats scored a pair of runs with two outs in the top of the first after a throwing error extened the inning.

Abilene Christian added four more unearned runs off of starter Jacob Ricossa in the bottom of the second and scored another unearned run off of Steven Valles in the third.

UTPB scored its run in the top of the fourth when Jordyn Van Atta singled into left with one out on a 2-2 pitch. He advanced into scoring position two batters later on a wild pitch as scored when Tanor Tinley doubled to left.

Tyler Forney's bat stayed hot with a 3-4 effort from the plate on the afternoon out of the lead-off spot in the lineup to pace the UTPB offense. Tinley reached base in each of his three plate appearance with a single and a double before later drawing a walk in his final at bat.

The Falcons return home this weekend, hosting three games against Arkansas-Fort Smith. First pitch for Friday afternoon's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
