3/2/2013 7:14:00 PM

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's basketball team closed out its 2012-13 season with a 17-point, 70-53 loss against Oklahoma Christian in a non-conference contest in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The Falcons kept the game within one possession for a large majority of the first half before the Eagles put a little distance between the teams in the half's final minutes. OCU scored six points in a row to break the sixth tie of the first half and lead 30-24 with 1:40 remaining in the first.

Following a pair of free throws by Tyler Reynolds that cut the lead down to four, a 3-pointer by Nick Tate with 16 seconds left in the half gave the Eagles their largest lead of the half at 33-26.

Rob Heyer hit a three of his own with five seconds remaining to send the Falcons into halftime trailing by four.

Oklahoma City took control in the second half, out-scoring UTPB 10-2 after halftime to lead 43-31 with just under 14 minutes to play in the game.

UTPB went on a run of its own, scoring the next 10 points of the game on a stretch that included threes from Heyer and Tyler Reynolds to get within two points at 43-41 halfway through the second.

That proved to be as close as the Falcons could get the remainder of the game as Oklahoma Christian began to pull away, leading by eight with 8:19 remaining.

A 3-pointer by Anthony Dees closed the gap down to five points, but the Eagles increased their lead once again behind five straight points from Will Reinke and never led by fewer than eight points in the remainder of the contest.

Heyer led the Falcons with 16 points in the game while also grabbing a game-high nine rebounds, while Tyler Reynolds added 14 points off the bench.

Reinke and Tate each scored a game-best 18 points for Oklahoma Christian as each shot 7-of-10 from the field on the night.
