The University of Texas of the Permian Basin erased a two run deficit in the top of the ninth, scoring three runs to take a 5-4 lead into the final half inning, but Lubbock Christian scored once on an error with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings where they ended the game by scoring in the bottom of the 10th to defeat UTPB 6-5 in 10 innings in Lubbock, Texas.
Trailing 2-0 after allowing a run in each of the first and second innings, UTPB cut the Chaps lead in half as
Tyler Forney reached on a fielder's choice on a ground ball to short as LCU took the force at second, allowing
Nelson Quintero to score from third.
Lubbock Christian scored one run in each of the third and fourth innings, upping its advantage to 4-1 through four innings.
The Falcons grabbed a run back in the top of the sixth as
Neil Madsen led off the inning by reaching on a fielding error. He was replaced on the bases by Jordyn Van Attta on a fielder's choice as Madsen was out at second, and following a line out to left for the second out, pinch hitter
Tanor Tinley moved him into scoring position on a single through the left side. Quintero drove Van Atta home in the next at bat, driving the first pitch he saw into right for a single.
UTPB loaded the bases for Van Atta in the top of the ninth, getting an infield single by Forney with one out, an error on a ball in play by
Ryne Head and a walk by Madsen to pack the bags with one out. Van Atta cleared the bases, hitting his first triple of the season to drive in three runs at put UTPB on top 5-4.
Lubbock Christian took the game into extra innings with a run in the bottom of the ninth, forcing a throwing error that let Brett Kauten score after advanced from second to third a ground ball thrown from third to first for the second out of the inning.
The Chaps ended the game in the bottom of the 10th, getting a base hit by Jason Fisch down the line into left to score Kamron Bownds from second.
The Falcons are back at home this weekend, hosting Texas A&M International for three games in Heartland Conference action. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
