The University of Texas of the Permian Basin softball team opened up weekend action at the Tarleton Invitational with an 8-4 loss against East Central before falling 11-3 in the second game of the day against host Tarleton State.
Cene Padilla got the game started quickly, leading off the top of the first with a home run to left center to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
UTPB added to its lead in the top of the second as Padilla singled into left center with two outs and runners on first and second to score
Tomie Ellard from second.
East Central took over in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs with the bases loaded; two on singles, one on an error that advanced all four runners, and the fourth of the inning on a fielders choice for the second out of the inning as the Tigers led 4-2 heading into the fourth inning.
UTPB tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth behind three hits.
Taleas Marble and
Kara Isbel led off the inning with back-to-back singled into right, and following a pair of strikeouts and a walk by
Anna Hollingsworth to load the bases,
Jackie Guzman singled into center to score Marble and Isbell.
The Tigers responded in the bottom of the sixth behind a pair of home runs and a ground out with a runner on third for the game's final four runs on their way to an 8-4 win.
UTPB scored right away in the second game of the day, putting up a two spot in the top of the first after loading the bases with one out.
Amber Gutierrez drew a walk to advance the runners and plate Marble, and Hollingsworth followed with a ground out to first that moved everyone up a base to score Isbel.
Tarleton responded with two of its own runs in the bottom half of the frame, using an RBI triple and sac fly to tie the game at 2-2 after one.
The TexAnns put up five runs on the bottom of the second behind a two-run home run and three base hits that scored runs to take a 7-2 lead into the third.
Marble led off the top of the third with her first home run of the season on what proved to be the Falcons final run of the game.
TSU added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth in closing out the 11-3 game in five innings.
UTPB is back in action with games against each team Sunday afternoon, beginning at 4 p.m.
