Falcons Drop 2013 Home Opener 8-1 Against Lubbock Christian

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin kicked off its 2013 home schedule with an 8-1 non-conference defeat to Lubbock Christian Tuesday afternoon at Roden Field.

The visiting Chaps (4-0) led off the game with three hits, scoring a pair of runs on RBIs by Brett Kauten and Joel Lutz with no outs to lead 2-0 early on.

UTPB (0-4) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second while recording five walks and scoring on a double play that brought Neil Madsen in to score from third.

LCU got the run back in the top of the sixth, loading the bases with one out and scoring one on a single by pinch hitter Kevin Domrzalski while throwing out Jason Fisch at the plate trying to score from second on the play.

Lubbock Christian put the game out of reach in the eighth, scoring five runs off of six hits to increase its lead out to 8-1.

The Falcons drew 11 total walks in the game while tallying five hits but struggled with runners on base, stranding 11 players on the day. 

Jacob Ricossa took the loss in his first start of the season, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out two in 5.1 innings of action.

Logan Burch picked up the win in four scoreless innings of relief for Lubbock Christian, allowing three hits and a walk.

UTPB returns to the diamond this weekend, hosting McMurry in a three game non-conference set kicking off with a doubleheader Friday afternoon at 12 p.m.
