McMurry Outlasts Falcons in 80-74 Overtime Loss

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin wrapped up its 2012-13 home schedule Saturday afternoon with a six-point 80-74 loss against McMurry in Odessa, Texas.

The Falcons rallied at the end of the game two different times to tie up the contest, bring the game to a 65-65 score on a 3-pointer by Madison Turner coming out of a time out with 1:27 remaining in regulation.

After a pair of free throws by Takoby Jackson put the War Hawks up by two, Xavier Martin sunk a layup with 57 seconds remaining the bring the game back even once again.

Jackson missed a jump shot with 41 seconds on the clock, but McMurry got possession back as Keith Martin turned over the ball after grabbing the rebound.

UTPB got it back with 34 seconds remaining as Jackson turned it over, but X. Martin's 3-pointer with :04 left was blocked.

The War Hawks controlled the overtime session, scoring the first seven points of the extra period in the first three minutes.

UTPB nearly rebounded, pulling to within one on a layup and free throw by X. Martin and got a second one with 1:15 left by Turner off of a steal.

McMurry scored the next four points and maintained at least a four point lead over the remainder of the game.

Anthony Dees was the lone Falcon to score in double digits in the game, scoring 11 points with a pair of 3-pointers.

Jackson and Alfred Perez each scored 16 points for the War Hawks, Perez on 6-of 7 shooting for the night.

UTPB wraps up the regular season on the road this coming week, traveling to Dallas Baptist Thursday night before ending the year at Oklahoma Christian Saturday afternoon.
