The University of Texas of the Permian Basin set a school record Saturday afternoon for the longest game in school history in suffering a 3-2 defeat in the third and final game of the weekend in 18 innings against St. Edward's.
The visiting Hilltoppers led early on, scoring a run in the top of the first as Nate Bobrowski tripled with one out and came home on a single from Joe Pirozzolo.
St. Edward's doubled its run total in the top of the fourth when Ranson LaLonde singled, advanced to second on a sac bunt and scored on CJ Manning's base hit.
UTPB grabbed it back in the bottom of the fourth.
Ryne Head led off the frame with a single into center and advanced over to third on the play as the center fielder booted the hit. He scored in the next at bat on a sac fly by
Tyler Forney into left to pull the Falcons to down a run.
They tied it in the next inning on the team's first home run of the season as
Nelson Quintero went yard with two outs to knot the game at 2-2.
The game remained tied over the next 12 innings as the score stayed at 2-2 deep in to extra innings.
St. Edward's broke the stalemate in the top of the 18th, scoring the game-winning run with two outs on a single through the left side of the infield to score Dylan Watts to take a 3-2 lead.
Matt Davis got the win in four innings of relief, allowing just two hits while striking out four for his third victory of the season.
Trent Morrison was charged with the loss after putting the eventual game-winning run on base.
Travis Wilcox threw nine innings in making the start, giving up a pair of runs while striking out six as he gave up five hits.

Ryne Head led UTPB with two hits each as the Falcons tallied 10 hits to St. Edward's eight.
UTPB is back in action next week on the road, traveling to Oklahoma City for a Feb. 28 game at Oklahoma Christian.
