The University of Texas of the Permian Basin has guaranteed itself a share of the 2012-13 Heartland Conference regular season championships with a 69-54 win at Newman in Wichita, Kan. The Falcons can claim the outright championship next Thursday at home in their final conference game of the season against St. Edward's.
Giselle Loya kept up her hot shooting from earlier in the week, hitting all five of her 3-point attempts in the game as the Falcons went 7-of-8 from deep on the afternoon and hit 50 percent of their shots from the field in the 15-point victory.
UTPB (17-5, 10-1) never trailed in the game and led by as many as 17 points in the first half as Loya hit three-straight 3-point attempts over a two-and-a-half minute span as the Falcons went in to halftime leading 38-24.
The Falcons led by double digits the entire game and increased its lead to 18 on a
Taniqua Ards layup and
Jocelyn Cook basket with 17:01 remaining in the second half.

Naderra Carey free throw with 14:35 remaining put them up 49-30 and gave UTPB its largest lead of the game.
Newman was able to pull to within 10 points at 7:20 on a 6-0 run, but the Falcons maintained a healthy advantage over the remainder of the half to wrap up the victory.
Loya and Ards tied for the team lead with 17 points each. Loya hit all six of her field goal attempts while Ards shot 66 percent (8-of-12) from the floor.
Teisha King added 13 points with six assists, and
Briannah Matthews led the Falcons with seven rebounds.
Kianna Flannagan scored 14 points to lead the Jets as Alexandra Ciabattoni and Bobbi Coleman each added 10.
