The University of Texas of the Permian Basin softball team kicked off the 2013 season with a Friday doubleheader against a pair of Lone Star Conference in San Antonio, Texas, dropping an 8-0 decision in six innings to Texas Woman's before suffering a 5-2 loss against Incarnate Word.

The Falcons gave up a run in the top of the first again in the nightcap, allowing an unearned run after an error in center field led to a runner scoring from second a batter later on a single.
The Cardinals put up a three spot in the third inning, driving in runs on a pair of base hits with a third run scoring on a fielding error with two outs.
The Falcons cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth, starting off the inning with a Morgan double into right field and an
Anna Hollingsworth base hit down the line in right that put runners on the corners with no one out. Hollingsworth advanced into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt by
Lucero Porras, and after Morgan was thrown out at home on a fielders choice, Amber Gurierrez singled up the middle to bring in a pair of runs.
UIW added an insurance run in the fifth and stranded a pair of Falcons in the bottom of the fifth on their way to a three run win in seven innings.
The Falcons are back in action Saturday, facing Eastern New Mexico at 2 p.m., followed immediately with a game against Abilene Christian at 4 p.m.
