The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's soccer opened the 2013 Heartland Conference schedule with a 3-0 loss Monday afternoon against Lubbock Christian at the UTPB Soccer Field in Odessa, Texas.

The visiting Chaps got onthe scoreboard early in the first when Nick Gorrie took a pass over the UTPB back line and shot underleath the bar in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

LCU doubled up on its total in the 26th minute when Billy Forbes scored his 10th of the season, deflecting a pass from Jorge Martinez from left of the box to the far post.

Jorge Elizalde added to Lubbock Christian's goal total in the second half, scoring from the center of the box on Martinez's second assist of the day.

UTPB out-shot LCU 7-5 in the second half, but the Chaps held a 16-11 overall shot total and recorded eight shots-on-goal to one for the Falcons.

It was a physical match between UTPB and its newest conference rival, with five yellow cards issued as Lubbock Christian played its first match as a Heartland Conference member.

The Falcons continue conference action this weekend, hosting Texas A&M International Saturday night at 5 p.m.
