The University of Texas of the Permian Basin dropped its second of two games in three days in a 3-0 loss at #21 Wayland Baptist Wednesday night in Plainview, Texas.
UTPB played the Flying Queens close in the first set of the match, rebounding after falling behind early in the first 5-2 to score five straight on three straight kills to lead 10-8. Wayland Baptist came back to take a 22-21 lead late in the set and never trailed, closing out the first with a 25-23 win.
Wayland Baptist closed out the rest of the contest with a pair of decisive set vicoties, winning the second set by nine points 25-16 and closing out the win 25-12 in the third.
Terra Peil and
Melissa Lusk led UTPB with nine kills each, Peil leading UTPB with a .389 hitting percentage on the night.
Ariel Fralick had a team-high 23 assists and
Jordan McDonald had a team-best 15 digs in the match.
The Falcons close out their three-day road trip tomorrow night with a Heartland Conference contest at Lubbock Christian. Thursday night's match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
