Box Score - Wayland Baptist      |     Box Score - Angelo State

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin volleyball team got revenge for a loss in straight sets to Wayland Baptist two weeks ago, winning the final two sets in a 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-12) victory over the Pioneers before suffering a 3-1 loss against Angelo State in four sets Tuesday night at the Falcon Dome in Odessa, Texas.

UTPB came out strong against the 18th-ranked team in the NAIA in a first set that featured numerous multiple point rallies. The Falcons took an 8-4 lead behind a pair of back-to-back kills by Morgann Davis followed by a third straight kill from Terra Peil. The Falcons never trailed from that point on in the first, scoring four of five in response to Wayland Baptist tying the set at 11-11 and UTPB closed out the set on kills by Terra Peil and Hannah Rebb.

The Falcons stuck with the Pioneers in the second and even held an 18-16 lead, but WBU roared back with five straight points and controlled the remainder of the set for a four-point win.

Wayland Baptist dominated the third as it kept the Falcons from sustaining any momentum throughout the set in a nine-point loss.

UTPB rallied in the fourth with their backs against the wall, scoring a pair of kills by Keeley Brogdon and Davis before taking the set with four of the final five points in a 25-23 win to square the contest at 2-2.

A great middle of the fifth set helped the Falcons secure the win, as they went from trailing 9-7 to leading 13-8. Wayland Baptist tried to make a comeback, pulling to within one, but Melissa Lusk and Ryley Carman closed out the set with a kill each to earn the team's first five-set victory of the year.

Lusk was one of three Falcons to record double digit kills in the contest, leading the team with 18 and a match-high .390 hitting percentage. Brogdon added 12 kills and Peil contributed 10 more to the winning effort. Ariel Fralick recorded 30 assists on the match and Taylor Harmon led all players with 34 digs from the libero position.

The Falcons weren't as fortunate early on against Angelo State. The nation's 16th-ranked team, the Belles rallied in the second half of the first set to take a 25-22 set win, and held the Falcons at bay with a 12-point second set victory to lead two sets to none. The Falcons come to life in the third, coming back from an 18-10 deficit to trail by just two and scored the final six points on a furious rally to take the third 25-22.

Angelo State gave the Falcons porblems again in the fourth, keeping the offensive attack down in taking a 19-11 lead. UTPB gave it their all, closing to within four late in the set and scoring three in a row while facing match point, but fell just short in tying up the fourth as the Rambelles took the match with a 25-22 set win.

Lusk once again led the offense with 14 kills and a team-best .257 hitting percentage. Brogdon added 11 kills, Fralick led the team with 21 assists, and Harmon had a team-high 28 digs.

The Falcons hit the road this weekend, venturing to St. Mary's and Texas A&M International in conference action.
