Box Score

Teisha King and Taniqua Ards combined to score 48 of The University of Texas of the Permian Basin's 64 points as the Falcons won their fifth straight Heartland Conference game in a 64-47 contest at St. Edwards in Austin, Texas.

King's game-leading 27 points put her at 1,007 all-time in her 2 1/2 seasons at UTPB.

UTPB needed little time to claim the lead early on, hitting its first three shots of the game in the opening two minutes to lead 7-0.

The Falcons lead evaporated halfway through the first on a Kendra Field 3-pointer with 8:49 remaining to give St. Edward's its first lead of the night at 22-20.

King and Briannah Matthews each scored a basket to close out the half on a 4-0 run and take a 29-25 lead into halftime.

The Falcons never trailed in the second half and were able to stretch the lead out to 11 points as Ards scored 10 of UTPB's points in-a-row to hold a 46-35 lead at 10:10 of the second half.

UTPB didn't waver down the stretch and led by at least eight points over the remainder of the game in wrapping up the 17-point victory.

King's 27 points came on 11-18 shooting from the field while dishing out four assists. Ards hit an equally impressive 8-10 shots on the night for her 21 points in just 20 minutes. UTPB shot 52 percent for the game, hitting 23-44 of its field goals while draining 16 free throws.

Dawn Kiel led the Hilltoppers with 16 points, hitting three 3-pointers in the game.

UTPB continues road action this weekend, traveling to Abilene, Texas, for a non-conference game against future Heartland opponent McMurry Saturday at 2 p.m.
