Volleyball Loses in Three at Arkansas-Fort Smith

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin dropped its second of two matches on the road this weekend, losing 25-14, 25-18 and 25-13 against Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday afternoon in Fort Smith, Ark.

UTPB fell behind in each set, twice by 5-0 as the hometown Lions came out strong. The Falcons would get as close as 10-6 in the first set before UAFS scored 15 of the next 23 points to win the set.

UTPB again was able to get close in set two, closing the lead down to 10-9, but would give up four straight points and were unable to string together more than two points at any time in the remainder of the set.

Arkansas-Fort Smith once again opened up the third set strongly, winning 11 of the first 14 points. UTPB closed to within 15-11 before the Lions scored seven straight points to put the set out of reach.

Melissa Lusk led UTPB with eight kills on the day, hitting a team-best .238. Jamie Rodell was involved in two of the team's three blocks on the afternoon. Ariel Fralick paced the team with 14 assists and Keeley Brogdon had a team-high 10 digs.

Heidi Luks led all players with 11 kills in the match while KatyBeth Carlson posted a .421 hitting percentage.

UTPB returns home next Thursday, hosting St. Mary's at 7 p.m. in the Falcon Dome.
