Box Score

Playing at home for the first time in 2012, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Lubbock Christian Tuesday night at the Falcon Dome.

UTPB and LCU played a tight first set that saw UTPB jump out to an early 9-4 advantage. A three point rally from Lubbock brought the score to within two at 9-7, and the visiting Lady Chaps would use a seven point streak to take a 20-16 lead late in the set. The Falcons were unable to come back at that point, getting to as close as 22-18 before dropping three of the next four points to drop the first set.

UTPB (1-4) fought back in set two, rebounding from trailing 3-2 early on to rattle off eight of nine points later in the set to lead 13-8. Lubbock responded with a run of its own in jumping out to a 22-19 lead towards the end of the set. The Falcons scored three straight points to tie it at 22-22, but three straight points for LCU gave it a 2-0 lead through two.

Lubbuck Christian (7-2) led for almost all of the third, jumping out to an early 9-4 lead. UTPB fought back to bring the score to 9-11, but the Lady Chaps reeled off 10 of 11 points in eventually closing out the match with a 25-15 win.

Jamie Rodell led UTPB with eight kills on the night, headlining the offensive attack with a team-best .316 hitting percentage. Ariel Fralick led the squad with 14 assists and Danae Eckart paced the defense with 19 digs.

Brittany Johnson led all players with 12 kills for LCU, hitting .550 on the night.

UTPB returns to the road this week, traveling to Wichita, Kan. for a Thursday night Heartland Conference contest against Newman before traveling to Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday afternoon.
