The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's soccer team dropped its first game of the season Tuesday afternoon, falling 2-0 on the road at Hardin-SImmons in Abeline, Texas.
Matt Pitcock broke the opening stalemate for Hardin-Simmons (2-0), taking advantage of a deep turnover in the UTPB defensive zone and finished in the lower corner of the net past Falcons keeper Chris Branum to give the Cowboys a 1-0 lead.
UTPB (0-1) fell behind by two halfway through the second half as Colyn Moore scored his third of the season in the 68th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
The Falcons turned up the pressure in the game's final minutes, firing off four shots in the final three minutes, including a pair of attempts on goal by
German Chavarria and
Andrew Enriquez that were saved by HSU keeper Sam Potter.
UTPB out-shot the hosts 16-15 on the day with five shots on net to the Cowboy's four.
The Falcons play at home for the first time in 2012 this weekend, hosting McMurry Saturday afternoon. Kickoff at the UTPB Soccer Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
