Goals from
Gary Willis and
Tyler Gibson helped push The University of Texas of the Permian Basin to its fifth-straight win Thursday night as UTPB earned a 2-0 win against Texas A&M International on a rainy pitch at the UTPB Soccer Field.
The win was UTPB's second straight shutout and the first game this season that wasn't decided by a one goal margin.
Willis put the Falcons on top late in the first half, re-directing a free kick from
Ciaran Connery in the 37th minute. Willis now has goals in two of the Falcons last three games after scoring last weekend against St. Edward's.
Willis helped on UTPB's second goal of the night, finding
Tyler Gibson on a cross that he brought down and was able to fire into the net in the 78th minute to put the match out of reach.
UT-Permian Basin is now the only team remaining in the Heartland Conference without a loss. UTPB leads all teams with a 3-0 record in conference play.
The Falcons return to the home pitch in two days, hosting St. Mary's at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
