Men's Soccer Survives 1-0 Win at Dallas Baptist

9/22/2012 4:18:00 PM

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's soccer picked up its fourth straight win of the season Saturday afternoon, holding off Dallas Baptist 1-0 to improve to 2-0 in Heartland Conference action in 2012.

Tyler Gibson scored the lone goal of the game, his first of the season, merely seconds before halftime, finishing an assist from Jose Anchondo with four seconds remaining in the first half.

The Falcons were forced to play shorthanded in the second half, as two players were sent off for receiving multiple yellow cards. The loss was slightly negated as Dallas Baptist was playing with just 10 men after losing a player to a straight red card early in the half.

UTPB was able to survive playing with one less player on the field over the final 25 minutes despite DBU attempting eight shots over the remainder of the game.

Goalkeeper Chris Branum was perfect in goal for the Falcons, stopping all five shots on net on the day as he improved to 2-1 on the season.

Rafael Borges led UTPB with three shots, one of seven players to record at least one shot attempt in the game.

UTPB continues HC action at home this week, hosting Texas A&M International Thursday night. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
