Gary Willis' first goal of the season with just over 10 minutes remaining Thursday afternoon propelled the University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's soccer to a 2-1 victory at St. Edward's in it's first Heartland Conference game of the season.

Willis' strike came at 79:56 on a header in the box to the far post, re-directing a corner kick from Jose Anchondo for the go-ahead and final goal of the game

Trailing 1-0 after Daniel Riley took a throughball to beat UTPB goalkeeper Chris Branum on a one-on-one in the game's fourth minute, the Falcons evened the contest just before halftime. Matt Rodgers tapped in a corner kick in the box off the foot of Ciarian Connery at 44:37 to bring the game to a 1-1 tie before the first 45 minute ran out.

Branum was perfect the remainder of the day in net, stopping the four other shots on goal he faced in the game.

UT-Permian Basin held a slight 14-13 shot lead in the game while getting six shots on goal to the Hilltoppers' five.

Anchondo and Tyler Gibson led UTPB with three shots apiece as eight different players tallied at least one shot attempt.

UTPB continues HC action on the road this weekend, facing Dallas Baptist in Dallas, Texas, Saturday afternoon. Kick off is set for 2:30 p.m.
