Falcons Hold Off Houston-Victoria To Remain Undefeated at Home

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's soccer scored three straight goals Thursday afternoon, rebounding from trailing 1-0 to hold off Houston-Victoria 3-2 to improve to 2-0 at home on the season at the UTPB Soccer Field.

Hector Ramirez got the first goal of the day for the Jaguars, scoring on a bobbled catch off of a corner kick in the 14th minute.

Ciarian Connery got things going for the Falcons, finishing from close in the middle of the box on a pass from Tyler Gibson on the left to tie the match at 1-1.

Logan Sharp gave the Falcons its first lead of the game, scoring from 15 yards straight away against a charging UHV goalkeeper.

Javier De Leon would add a much needed insurance goal at 72:50, placing a ball into the upper right corner from the left side of the box to stretch the UTPB lead to 3-1.

Stiven Ospina would add the second UHV goal of the day minutes later in the 78th, finding the lower left corner to cut the UTPB lead to one.

The Falcons survived a pair of shots in the game's final two minutes to improve to 2-1 on the season.

UTPB held a 17-12 shot advantage on the day, with Houston-Victoria taking six corners to the Falcons' five on the day.

UT-Permian Basin looks to keep its two-game win streak intact next week, opening Heartland Conference action with a 3:30 p.m. contest Thursday, Sept. 20 at St. Edwards in Austin, Texas.
