ERROR-PLAGUED FALCONS DROP PAIR OF GAMES TO LIONS

3/10/2012 8:49:00 PM

game one
game two

FORT SMTIH, Ark. – The University of Texas of the Permian Basin baseball team committed five errors in two games, including four in the first contest which led to a pair of losses to Arkansas-Fort Smith.  The Lions took the first game 8-0 before winning the second 4-1.

In the first game, the Lions took full advantage of the Falcons' fielding miscues as all eight runs were scored in the fifth inning and all were unearned.  Prior to the fifth inning, the UTPB pitching staff didn't give up a run and allowed just three hits.

The Lions picked up four of their six hits in the fifth, all of which were singles.

UTPB starter Kyle Cormier tossed four innings where he gave up three hits and struck out four.  Jeff Fisher-Gasper and Isaac Diaz closed out the game, scattering three hits between them.

In the second game, four UTPB pitchers combined to give up just three hits, but a three-run first inning by the Lions set the tone for the game as the Falcons never recovered.  Arkansas-Fort Smith picked up all three hits in the first frame and took advantage of another Falcon error in the win.  They would eventually score their forth run in the bottom of the second.

Mike Briseno, who has hit safely in five-straight games, went 2-for-4 with two doubles, while Arturo Carrera hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth.  Carerra has now hit safely in four-straight games.

The two teams will play the third and final game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
