LAREDO – Madison Turner put in a team-high 16 points, including a go-ahead three-pointer with 58 seconds to play in overtime, lifting the Falcons to a 49-47 win. UTPB has now won four-straight Heartland Conference games, as they improved to 4-5 in league action.
A&M International held the lead for the first 16 minutes of the game, until
Branden Harrison made a layup with 3:20 to play in the first, giving UTPB a 20-18 edge. The Falcons would eventually take a 26-22 halftime lead.
The Dustdevils lead for nearly the entire second half, but a layup by Turner tied the contest at 40 with 1:10 to go. Neither team would score again as the Falcons missed a three-pointer with four seconds to go in regulation.
In overtime, Ryan McLucas drained a three-pointer to give A&M International a 43-40 lead with 3:35 to play.
Erik Martin cut into the lead with a layup 32 seconds later making it 43-42. Another bucket by the Dustdevils gave them a two-point edge until
Louis Crane nailed a three-pointer with 2:08 to go, tying the game at 45. Turner's three with 58 seconds to play in overtime gave UTPB a three-point lead before Evan Matteson knocked down a pair of free throws with 39 seconds left to make it a one-point game.
Crane closed out the scoring with a free throw with 11 seconds to play, pushing the Falcons to victory. The Falcons are now 10-12 overall and will return home to host Arkansas-Fort Smith at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Falcon Dome.
