WICHITA, Kan. – The University of  Texas of the Permian Basin men's basketball team had its six-game win streak snapped as Newman took a 57-43 victory over the Falcons.  UTPB is still fighting for a spot in the upcoming Heartland Conference Tournament as it now sits at 6-6 in league play.

Newman led from start to finish, taking advantage of shooting woes by the Falcons.  UTPB shot 38 percent from the field for the game and missed five of the 14 free throws it attempted.  The Jets on the other hand, knocked down 17-of-24 free throws and scored 15 points off of 20 turnovers by the Falcons.

Branden Harrison was the go-to player for the Falcons as he put in a team-high 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting while Ke'Andre Derrick was a perfect 2-of-2 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line for seven points.

The Jets opened the game with a 13-2 lead with 12:58 to go in the first, but a 9-0 run brought the falcons within two (13-11) after Erik Martin converted a layup with 7:58 to go in the first.  Newman would eventually take a 21-18 halftime lead.

UTPB would pull within one on two different occasions in the first half, but it scored just six points over the first 12:43 of the second half.  Newman took advantage of the scoring drought, taking a 38-24 lead with 7:17 to go.  The Falcons never recovered as they trailed by at least seven the rest of the way.

The Falcons are now 13-13 overall and will host Dallas Baptist on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Falcon dome.
