Madison Turner was perfect in the first half Saturday night, hitting all five of his field goals, four of them 3-pointers, and his three free throw attempts as he scored 17 first half points to help the University of Texas of the Permian Basin complete a 63-50 win over Oklahoma Christian in the team's first home game of the 2012-13 season.
Turner led all scorers in the Falcons first win of the season, scoring a career-high 27 points on 6-of-8 shooting while getting to the free throw line 15 times, making 11.
UTPB took its first lead of the night at 9-1 on an
Anthony Dees layup at the 15:05 mark of the first half. The Falcons stretched it out to five on a Turner three and
Tyler Reynolds jumper to hold a 14-9 advantage.
Six straight points after Turner hit all of his free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt and a Dees three carried the Falcons to an eight point lead at 20-12 near the 11 minute mark of the first half.
Three-pointers fromTurner two different times pushed the advantage up to 12 points in the remainder of the half, and
Tyler Reynolds gave the Falcons a 14-point lead going into halftime when he made three free throws after being fouled with .3 seconds remaining in the half on a 3-point attempt.
Another Dees three at 16:05 of the second half gave the Falcons their largest lead of the game at 40-25, but Oklahoma Christian pulled closer over much of the second half, closing to within eight on a Devan White three and making it a two-possession game on a pair of WIll Reinke free throws with 10:51 remaining in the game.
Seven points was as close as the Eagles were able to get in the remainder of the half at 48-41 with 2:57 remaining, as UTPB hit 11-of-13 free throws in the game's final minutes to wrap up the victory.
Dees added 19 points for UTPB, hitting six of his nine field goal attempts on the day. Reynolds contributed 12 points with a game-best four assists.
The Falcons held Oklahoma Christian to 34 percent shooting on the day. The Eagles were led by Reinke, who scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds but turned the ball over a game-high six times.
UTPB is back in action at home next weekend, opening Heartland Conference action against Dallas Baptist. Game time for Dec. 8 is set for 4 p.m.
