The University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's basketball team dropped its second game of the weekend Saturday afternoon, losing to Fort Hays State 63-43
Free throws were the story in the first half, as the Tigers went to the free throw line 18 times to UTPB's four on their way to taking a seven point 34-27 lead at halftime. Fort Hays State connected on 16 of their foul shot attempts while the Falcons were successful on two of their four attempts from the free throw line.
UTPB was able to hold FHSU to 28 percent shooting in the first half, and the Falcons kept the game close by hitting 3-of-7 attempts from the 3-point line.
UTPB pulled to within five on a
Giselle Loya shot coming out of halftime, but the Tigers rattled off an 11 point run over the next seven minutes to push its lead back out to 16.
The Falcons scored 10 of the next 12 points, pulling back to within single digits behind points from four different players to trail 47-39.
Nine points was as close as UTPB was able to get in the remainder of the second half as the Tigers pulled away in the game's final minutes.
Teisha King led the Falcons with 10 points while Loya,
Briannah Matthews and
Taniqua Ards each added eight points each.
Clarissa Davis grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Katelyn Edwards led all scorers with 16 points for Fort Hays State, and Kate Lehman led all players with 13 rebounds.
UTPB returns to action Thursday night, traveling to Plainview, Texas, for a 7 p.m. tipp against Wayland Baptist.
