Volleyball Season Ends With 3-0 Loss Against Arkansas-Fort Smith

The 2012 University of Texas of the Permian Basin volleyball season concluded Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss against Arkansas-Fort Smith at the Falcon Dome in Odessa, Texas. The Falcons honored seniors Jamie Rodell and Danae Eckart playing in the final game at UTPB.

UTPB played one of its best matches of the season, holding leads in each of the three sets of the match. The Falcons scored the first two points of the opening set and used a pair of kills to take a 6-4 lead in the opener. UTPB was able to hold off the Lady Lions and keep the lead until UAFS took its first lead of the day at 12-11. The Lady Lions held their lead the rest of the set, but the Falcons were able to get back to within one on an ace from Keeley Brogdon as UAFS served for the match. Arkansas-Fort Smith was successful on its second set point to take set one 25-23.

The Falcons rebounded from an early 4-0 hole in set two, rattling off six straight points in the middle of the set to tie it at 13-13. They took their first lead at 20-19 on a kill from Riley Carman. Coming out of a time out, UAFS scored four consecutive points to take a three-point lead, and while the Falcons were able to score a pair of points as the Lady Lions served for the set, UAFS picked up the decisive point for another 25-23 win.

UT-Permian Basin came out strong in the third, scoring four of the first five points behind kills from Melissa Luck, Brogdon and Terra Peil. The Falcons held the advantage for a majority of the third, falling behind for the first time at 16-15. The Lady Lions took over control of the set, stretching its lead out to 21-16 before eventually winning 25-19 to wrap up the victory.

Brogdon led all players on the day with 14 total kills in the three-set match. Eckart led the team with 15 total digs while Ariel Fralick totaled 22 assists.
