Box Score

Alyssa Riddle and Skylar Bluebird each scored their first goals of the season Thursday night, picking up an early two goal lead and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's soccer team was able to hold off Oklahoma Christian for its first victory of the season in a 2-1 win at the UTPB Soccer Field.

Riddle put the Falcons on the board first in the 27th minute, taking a throughball from Bria Smith-Porter down the right side, beating the OC goalkeeper on a shot that was deflected but trickled into the net to give UTPB a 1-0 lead.

Bluebird doubled the advantage nine minutes later, cleaning up a bouncing ball in front of the net with a solid strike to the left side of the goal to put the Falcons up 2-0.

The extra goal proved to be extremely valuable just a minute and a half later as the Eagles responded. Katie Wertz took a pass from Chelsie Flagg to breakaway down the right side of the UTPB defensive zone, and her shot beat UTPB keeper Jenna Easley to cut the UTPB lead in half.

Easley made three saves in picking up her first win of the season as the Falcons limited Oklahoma Christian to just two shot attempts in the second half.

Smith-Porter led UTPB with four shots, all but one of them coming on net as UT-Permian Basin held a slight 8-7 shot advantage.

UTPB returns to home action this weekend, taking on Newman at the UTPB Soccer Field Saturday, Oct. 6. Kick off is slated for noon.
