Oscar Reyes scored a goal and added an assist, and Gary Willis and Logan Sharp each found the back of the net as the University of Texas of the Permian Basin men's soccer team held off Dallas Baptist in a 3-2 victory Saturday afternoon at the UTPB Soccer Field.

Reyes put the Falcons ahead 1-0 early in the first half, picking up the ball next to the end line on the left side of the box, dribbling towards the net and shooting on a tight angle to net his second goal of the season at 13:42.

Dallas Baptist came right back to even the game up, earning a penalty kick as a DBU forward was taken down in the box by  UTPB goalkeeper Chris Benavides. David Balyeat scored his fourth of the season in converting the pk to tie the match at 1-1 at 16:47.

Gary Willis gave UTPB back the advantage four minutes after halftime as Tyler Gibson was forced off the ball while dribbling through the middle of the box. Willis collected the loose ball and fired a rocket into the left side of the net, his third on the season at 49:15.

Logan Sharp added on to the Falcons lead eight minutes later, tanking a pass from Reyes and releasing a low shot to the left corner of the goal from the top of the box for his second score of the season at 57:02.

The Patriots rebounded quickly, closing the gap back to a single goal two minutes later as Balyeat found Matthew Steffens on an odd-man break, passing the ball to Steffens on the right side of the box to score in the right half of the goal.

Benavides came up with four saves in net for UTPB and Chuck Schober stopped three balls on the day as each team tallied 13 shots apiece on the day.

The Falcons honored five seniors in a ceremony at halftime. Jose Anchondo, Benavides, Shelby Sharp, Johnny Harris and Andrew Arriaga each competed in their final home game of their collegiate careers Saturday.

UTPB returns to the road early next week, traveling to Abilene, Texas, for a Monday afternoon match against McMurry. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
