Box Score

The UTPB men's soccer team had trouble containing one of the nation's best scorers Tuesday afternoon, falling behind 2-0 in the first half before dropping a 3-1 decision at home to #20 West Texas A&M in non-conference action at the UTPB Soccer Field.

Dominic Furness, who entered the game with 16 goals on the season and was ranked second in the nation in both points per game and goals per game, added to his total in the game's 27th minute, stealing possession deep in the UTPB zone to create a one-on-one breakaway against UTPB goalkeeper Craig Branum down the left side of the box. He curled his attempt around Branum for the games' first score at 26:26 to give the visiting Buffaloes a 1-0 lead.

Martin Fuentes doubled the WTAMU advantage as Conrod Goulbourne took a no-look heel flick off the foot of George Beasley, collecting the through ball to cross it across the box and find Fuentes for a redirection into the net at 39:56 to put the Buffs ahead 2-0.

Oscar Reyes cut the lead in half just over three minutes later, streaking down the right side of the pitch uncovered to collect a ball from Giovanni Gomez and run into the box unimpeded to fire to the left of West Texas A&M keeper Carlos Ruiz and send the game to halftime at 2-1.

The Falcons cranked up the pressure in the second half, taking seven shots to just one in the opening 45 minutes. The Buffaloes would be the ones to strike, though, as Furness added to his goal count, taking a pass from Goulbourne in front of the right post to score his second of the night and put the game away at 3-1 in the 82nd minute.

UTPB returns to conference action later this week, hosting a pair of games over the next four days, starting with a 7:30 p.m. match Thursday night against St. Edward's.
