UNGER BECOMES ALL-TIME HEARTLAND CONFERENCE THREE-POINT SHOOTER

1/23/2012 3:30:00 PM

Lauren Unger has made 222 three-point baskets in her three-plus season career in UTPB uniform and has etched her name in the Heartland Conference record books as the league's all-time three-point shooter.

The Midland, Texas native surpassed Hope Hunt of Drury, who previously held the mark of 214 from 2000-2005.  She is currently the only active player in the Heartland Conference with at least 150 three's made for her career.

Unger has made a living behind the three-point line as all but 25 of her career baskets have come from downtown and she has drained at least 60 in three of her four seasons.  She currently has 61 made three's under her belt and is now shooting for the Heartland Conference all-time single-season record of 88 set by Alira Carpenter of Montana State-Billings during the 2006-07 season.  She is also looking to become the school's single season leader as Crystal Johnson currently holds the record of 84 which she set during the 2007-08 year.

Her final season has been extra special as Unger has hit at least four three-pointers on nine different occasions, including a career-high seven, which she has done in two of the last three games.  She has been held without a three-pointer only twice this season and 18 for her career.

Not only has Unger been a spark from the outside, she has also done it with some of the best efficiency the league has ever seen.  Through 18 games this season, she is hitting 46.9 percent from long range, which would currently be the Heartland Conference single-season three-point percentage record.  Throughout her career, she is 222-of-615 for 36.1 percent.

She will look to add to her totals as she has eight more games left in the regular season and possibly at least one more if the Falcons advance to the Heartland Conference Tournament.
