Branden Harrison made a layup with 2:10 remaining in the game, which tied it at 61, but The University of Texas of the Permian Basin would score just two points the rest of the way which enabled Newman to take a 68-63 Heartland Conference victory.

The Falcons fell to 0-5 in league play, while the Jets are flying high at 4-0 in the Heartland.  The setback is the fifth-straight for UTPB, which is now 6-11 overall.

UTPB's thorn paid a visit once again this season as the Falcons struggled early, falling behind by 11 in the first half and went into the locker room down 38-28 at the break.  Not only did their poor start and cold shooting from the field (37.9 percent) plague them, the Falcons turned the ball over 17 times which led to 14 Jet points.

An 18-4 run to open the second half propelled the Falcons to a 46-42 advantage with 12:33 to play.  They would hold the lead until Josh Pleasant converted a layup with 6:11 to play, giving Newman a 53-52 lead.  The Jets would not lose the lead the rest of the way.

Harrison led the Falcons with 14 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while Erik Martin added 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.  UTPB will remain at home and will be looking for its first Heartland Conference victory when the Falcons host Panhandle State at noon on Saturday.
