DALLAS - Two players scored in double-figures with
Erik Martin leading the way with 16, but The University of Texas of the Permian Basin dropped a 78-64 decision to Dallas Baptist.
The Patriots on the other hand, were fueled by TJ Clark and Jordan McGowen, who combined for 39 of the team's 78 points and 14 of the 27 rebounds. McGowen put in a game-high 22, hitting 6-of-13 shots from the field and drained four three-pointers while Clark added 17 with six rebounds.
Dallas Baptist led from start to finish, including a 38-29 halftime advantage. UTPB was held scoreless until the 16:34 mark when
Branden Harrison knocked down a jumper for two of his eight points on the night. The Patriots would lead by as many as 10 on two different occasions, but the Falcons managed to cut that lead to five with under two minutes to play in the first.
Martin hit one of his two three-pointers on the night with 15:03 to play cutting the lead to six (46-40) but the Falcons would come no closer the rest of the way. UTPB would go ice cold as it wouldn't score again until the 8:13 mark when Harrison hit another jumper. By that time, the Patriots used a 15-0 run to lead 61-42. The trend would continue as they would extend their advantage to 70-46 with 4:44 to play.
The Falcons did use a 16-4 run to close the gap to 12 (74-62) with 1:43 to go, but would come no closer.
UTPB fell to 6-9 on the year and 0-3 in Heartland Conference play and will remain on the road this Saturday when it heads to Fort Smith, Ark. to take on Arkansas-Fort Smith.
