The University of Texas of the Permian Basin women's soccer team had no easy task in the 2011 Heartland Conference opener as it took on defending champion St. Edward's. The Hilltoppers used two quick second half goals to lift them to a 2-1 victory on the UTPB Soccer Field.
After playing a scoreless half, Kelly Servage dribbled past a UTPB defender then put in the first goal of the game at the 48
th minute after her shot found the lower left corner of the net for the early lead. Less than three minutes later, Kristen Hart scored her first goal of the season by heading in a corner kick from Bethany Bennett, giving St. Edward's a 2-0 lead.
Despite being outshot 22-9,
Alexandra Sobrino scored her first goal of the season when she received a pass from
Nicole Rodine, using a one-touch get it past Hilltopper goal keeper Danielle Licarione Sobrino's score came at the 54:14 point in the contest, but the Falcons managed just two more shots on goal the rest of the way and eventually ran out of time.
UTPB goal keeper
Alexis Frueh stopped a career-high 11 shots as St. Edward's riffled 13 on goal for the contest. The Falcons on the other hand was able to get six shots on goal as they fell to 1-6 on the year.
