The University of Texas of the Permian Basin pounded out a combined 19 hits in two games as the Falcons took 11-8 and 5-3 victories over Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Jeremy Miller was the biggest Lion killer as he collected three hits and three RBI including a triple and a home run. He was one of three players to pick up at least two hits in the second game as Chandler Good and
Austin Wooldridge both picked up two each. Wooldridge also hit a solo shot in the fourth inning of the first game.
An eight-run third inning lifted the Falcons to victory in the first game as they picked up seven of their 10 hits on the game in the frame.
Both teams would score single runs in the first inning before the Lions took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the third. A double by Ben Kozma to center cleared the bases as one of his two hits on the day.
The eight runs by the Falcons ties a season-high after putting up as many against Colorado School of Mines earlier this season.
In the second game, UTPB would break a scoreless tie in the third when
Ryan Giacomini singled through the right side to score
Stephen Hrebicek, who led off the inning with a double down the line. Hrebicek went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and a run scored.
A triple by Miller scored
Brantley Miller, who led off the inning with a single to left center. Giacomini picked up his second RBI with a single to center, scoring
Jeremy Miller from third. Giacomini would later make it 4-0 when he scored from third on a double play by the Lions.
Arkansas-Fort Smith kept the game close with three runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to center and a two-run single by Kozma. Reliever
Dylan Giesler stopped the rally as he picked up the final two outs of the inning.
Goode would tack on the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring
Ryne Head, who led off the inning with a pinch hit single up the middle.
Jeff Fisher-Gasper pitched the final inning, striking out two and walking one for his fifth save of the season. UTPB improved to 22-24 on the year and will host Panhandle State for a three-game series starting Friday on Roden Field.
