STEPHENVILLE – Despite a two homerun, five RBI performance by
Jeremy Miller, No. 27 Tarleton State took a 12-6 victory over The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, completing the three-game sweep.
For the first time in the series, the Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to Miller's first round-tripper of the game. Goode led off the game with a walk and would later steal second before Miller's shot to left field.
The Texans cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the first when Junior Dishmey-Perez hit a solo homer to left center.
UTPB added to its lead in the third with two more runs thanks to another two-run blast by Miller, driving in
Andy Quiring, who led off the frame with a single to left.
Tarleton State would take the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth when Landon McCall hit a grand slam which sparked a six-run inning. His homer was part of a five-hit frame that proved to be enough for the Texans, who improved to 24-7 on the year.
The Falcons did manage to score a run in the sixth and another in the eighth, but each time UTPB scored, Tarleton State answered with a run of its own, including two in the seventh.
UTPB fell to 14-18 on the year and will return home to take on St. Mary's for a three-game series starting Friday at 1 p.m. on Roden Field.
