STEPHENVILLE – Nathan Lewis silenced the Falcon bats as he gave up just two hits while striking out five batters in 6.1 innings pitched to lead No. 27 Tarleton State to a 2-0 win over The University of Texas of the Permian Basin. The Texans went on to win the second game 11-4.
Chandler Goode broke up the no-hitter and perfect game in UTPB's final at bat of the first game before
Jeremy Miller picked up the Falcons' second hit of the game with a single to right field.
Felix Cardenas kept the Falcons in the game as he gave up two runs off eight hits while striking out 10 in 5.2 innings pitched. Tarleton State took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning before scoring its second run in the third.
In the second game, the Texans scored two quick runs in the second before UTPB cut the lead in half in the third. A lone run in the fourth gave Tarleton a 3-1 edge, but the Falcons kept the game close with another run in the fifth.
Two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth gave Tarleton a 9-2 lead which proved to be too much for the Falcons. UTPB would score two more in the eighth, but the Texans put up two more in the bottom of the frame to complete the sweep.
UTPB fell to 14-17 overall while Tarleton improved to 23-7 on the year. The two teams will be back in action tomorrow with another double header starting at 1 p.m.
