AUSTIN –
Andy Quiring hit a two-out two run single in the top of the 13
th inning to propel The University of Texas of the Permian Basin to a 4-2 victory over St. Edward's to take the third and final game of the Heartland Conference series.
Ten different pitchers were used by both teams in the longest game the Falcons have played this season. Quiring and
Chandler Goode combined for five of the team's 12 hits and the duo drove in two runs each.
St. Edward's took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Adam Shank hit an RBI single up the middle to plate Taylor Johnson. UTPB would bounce back in its next at-bat when Goode doubled down the left line, allowing
Hugo Hernandez and
Ryan Giacomini to score, giving the Falcons a 2-1 edge.
The score would remain that way until Shank sent the game into extra innings with a single through the right side to score Paul McCoy to tie the game at two. The score would stay that way until Quiring's single propelled the Falcons to victory.
Jacob Ricossa, who pitched the final three innings of the game, picked up the victory as he gave up two hits and struck out two without giving up a run.
UTPB improved to 16-22 and 13-8 in Heartland Conference play and will head to Abilene to take on the Wildcats tomorrow at 3:35 p.m.
