GOODWELL, Okla. – A five-run sixth-inning lifted The University of Texas of the Permian Basin baseball team to a 7-5 win over Panhandle State. The victory completed the three-game sweep over the Aggies and put the Falcons back in the thick of the Heartland Conference race.
Panhandle State took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Josh Avery to plate Luke Rodi. A single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning gave the Aggies a 4-0 lead before the Falcons busted out with five runs in the sixth off four hits including an two-run single by
Ryan Giacomini.
The Falcons made it 6-4 in the seventh when Wooldridge singled in Miller, who reached on a one-out walk.
Garrett Wolff notched another run for UTPB in the top of the ninth with an RBI single that plated Miller, who scored three of the seven runs for the Falcons.
Panhandle State answered with a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Jeff Fisher Gasper closed the door on the Aggies as he pitched the final out of the inning for the save.
Andrew Buckham pitched five innings where he gave up three earned runs off eight hits to pick up his third win of the season.
UTPB returns home to take on Incarnate Word tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
