3/16/2011 7:24:39 PM

Hugo Hernandez hit an RBI Double down the left line in the bottom of the sixth inning to spark four runs in the frame to put The University of Texas of the Permian Basin ahead for good over Abilene Christian. The Falcons eventually broke a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the ninth after Brantley Miller's ground ball to shortstop to score Travis Wilcox for the winning run.

UTPB had seven hits on the day, including a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI by Andy QuiringJeremy Miller also picked up two hits on the day while Wilcox, who caught the first eight innings, pitched the last inning in relief for his first win of the season.

It was a staff day for the UTPB pitchers as nine different arms were used in the win. The group combined for eight strikeouts with Kyle Cormier and Ryan Escarcega picking up two strikeouts each.

Abilene Christian broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the second when Abe Williams singled to left field to plate Cameron Bankston who led off the inning with a walk.

The score would remain that way until the Wildcats put up two more in the fifth off two hits while two Falcon errors led to an unearned run.

In the bottom of the fifth, Chandler Goode led off the inning with a walk before Quiring doubled down the left line to give the Falcons their first run of the game. A groundout by Miller allowed Quiring to advance to third before Wilcox hit a sacrifice fly to left field deep enough to plate Quiring.

The momentum continued in the bottom of the sixth when the Falcons broke out with four runs off three hits, including Hernandez's double as well as a triple by Wilcox.

Leading 6-3, ACU cut into the deficit by picking up two runs off one hit in the eighth before tying the game in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Bankston.

Wilcox started the UTPB rally in the ninth with a one-out single to right before an error by Duncan Blades at third off the bat of Garrett Wolff put runners on first and second. A wild pitch by Zach Sneed moved both runners to third before Miller's fielder's choice brought in Wilcox for the game-winner.

The victory moved the Falcons to 8-14 on the season and will hit the road once again when they take on Panhandle State for a three-game Heartland Conference series in Goodwell, Okla. Friday and Saturday.
